As a Computer Science and Mathematics major at Stanford, I was fortunate enough to spend four years learning new ways to solve exciting problems, meeting intelligent and fascinating people, and challenging myself to balance academics, athletics, and California sunshine. While I was understandably loath to leave all of that behind, I was excited about the prospect of entering a career that would afford a similar balance of motivation, learning, intellectual excitement, and fun.
Since joining Appian as a technical consultant, I have spent my time in a variety of ways -- designing and developing software, meeting with clients to understand their business requirements and map them into project specifications, and learning the newest technologies for building web applications. Projects are ambitious and tend to move fast, so it's a constant yet rewarding challenge to keep innovating and adapting. In just a few weeks I will see my team's hard work pay off, when we launch three large-scale projects that will affect how hundreds of thousands of people work, communicate, and share information.
One of my favorite things about working at Appian is the collaborative environment -- while my project group is unusually large, we stay close-knit and in constant communication through meetings, brainstorming sessions, and the occasional night out in DC. The office environment is extremely open -- literally and physically -- and assistance with a tough problem from a brilliant and helpful coworker is never more than a yell or an instant message away. When I'm not busy in meetings or wrestling with code, I can be found coaching the AppianSox, our co-ed softball team, and, of course, developing the team website on Appian's software.
While I am still relatively new to Appian and don't know precisely where my career path will take me, I'm confident that the next great opportunity is always just around the corner.
